Kiku Honda
FULL NAME HERE Kiku Honda
NICKNAMES He currently doesn't have any, but he finds nicknames very endearing, so call him what you wish
GENDER Male
AGE 17
GRADE 12
ETHNICITY Japanese
SPECIALTY Known for his stereotypical katana/ninja skills and on the surface is basic samurai etc. He hides the fact he’s quite a technological whiz and is a master of computers. The samurai skills are kind of obvious. He can handle a sword well. He’s decently, if not extremely stealthy. This is not what he has a passion for though. He’s a child that only learned all of this to please his Father. He’s actually MUCH better with computers. Coding, hacking, you name it, he can do it. With his fingers, he can literally take down the entirety of the school computers, or the world’s if he really tried.
YOUR CHARACTER'S LIKES Chrysanthemums. When he was a young boy, before she died, his mother ALWAYS kept a vase of fresh flowers in the house. Chrysanthemums were her favorites, and after her death, Kiku maintained a garden of the flower, plus, he takes a bouquet to her grave every year on her birthday
Animals. He has his little Pochi at home (His Shiba Inu puppy) who he loves more than anything. He adopted it as a stray, when he was 12. Not only does he like dogs, he adores cats. And anything else cute and fluffy. Kiku just lets out his nurturing side, something that he doesn’t show too often. He loves songbirds and all wild nature. OH and fish. He has multiple fish ponds at home. But not bugs. Anything but bugs.
Video games(and other technology). He’s a giant nerd. HUGE. He loves every computer game, wii, xbox, ps3. If it’s a game, he’s mastered it. A connoisseur of old school Nintendo, he’s the geek that other geeks ASPIRE to become.
Manga and Anime. A pretty stereotypical thing he’s an Asian boy who likes reading manga, and has a large collection, especially those with the superheroes saving the world from evil, and getting the girl, catching the villain, basically any of those prince charming stories.
Food. He’s a big fan of the finer things in life, and loves good food. Mostly Asian food, but is never one to refuse a meal, and has a little place in his heart reserved for Italian food. Western food bores him slightly though, he just finds it very bland.
Solitude. He doesn’t mind people. When there aren’t very many of them. And when he knows them. And when they’re mostly quiet. He just likes being alone. Time to play video games and read without distractions and interruptions.
Baseball. He adores baseball. It’s the one sport he can stand. He watches it, plays it, and is actually decent at it too.
YOUR CHARACTER'S DISLIKES Cockroaches. But other insects, and arachnids too. Bugs just aren’t his thing.
Boats. The fact they float on water, they’re just not very sturdy, and the waves splash against the sides is a part of it. It’s too unsettling for him, and he gets EXTREMELY seasick. Mostly It's the fact of his falling off of one,and his mom dying from falling off and stuff.
Most Sports. It sounds stereotypical, but he just doesn’t enjoy them, Except for baseball. But basketball, American and normal football, hockey, tennis, he’s just not a real big fan. And it’s not even because he’s a nerd that can’t play them. His slight frame is surprisingly muscular, and his stamina and stealth can help him in multiple sports. He COULD be one of the best badminton players out there, but he doesn’t like it.
To put it lightly, preps. He can’t stand all the bouncy nice girls and boys wearing the newest name brand clothes and all their “perfectness”. He just finds them repulsive and arrogant. And he thinks that every single one of them is basically a wolf in sheep’s clothing, they act all nice to people but turn around and hurt them, and are evil. Must be cause he wasn’t too popular at his hometown’s school.
On that note, money. He never really had that much money in his family and his mother taught him at a young age about being cost effective. When he was on his own, it just reinforced these skills. So now, to see all of these people who splurge 24/7 and who don’t care about money just makes him mad.
Despite his heritage. He just doesn’t like tea. Well, tea is ok, but he hates the formality of it all. So more so, tea TIME. He just thinks it’s a big hub bub over nothing.
FEARS TERRIBLE fear of water. Big back-story of him nearly drowning, and his mom dying. Like the second he gets into water past his knees, or anything with rough waves, he violently shakes and just freaks out and tries to run away. Needless to say, baths are not his thing. Or pool parties.
Crowds. Becomes claustrophobic, starts hyperventilating. He’s really just not a people person. He’s even prone to blacking out if he gets too worked up.
His father. After his mother drowned, his father drank himself into nothingness and just neglected to care for Kiku. He was ever-present but never there, so he ran away when he was 11. His father never directly attacked him, but he’s afraid to confront him, or even see him after the desertion
QUIRKS/ODDITIES He hides it, but he has TERRIBLE eyesight (Nearly blind without assistance), and wears contacts.
He loves being a furry. He has cat ears and a tail hidden in his closet. [Insert Greece joke here] (jk)
Kiku has extreme and violent night terrors and insomnia, that comes in waves, so for random weeks, he will barely get any sleep, and that he does is spent freaking out in his sleep.
He’s actually dyslexic. This is why he’s so good with computers. His lacking in basic language, caused him to create code specifically for himself, completely revolutionizing code, and making things easier for himself
OVERALL PERSONALITY Honest: It wasn't specified, but he HATES liars. He just does. The occasional lie is ok ("Oh, it's ok, I didn't want to go that bad anyways"), but when it gets to the point where entire experiences, skills, or even lives are manufactured it just gets on his nerves. Kiku himself, doesn't lie. At all. If a troubling situation occurs, then he will either just say what he needs to, or use his quietness to his advantage, and just not speak.
Well-Spoken: He doesn't talk much. But when he does, he wants to feel/sound intelligent. It's really not that hard for him, because he is pretty smart anyways. He DETESTS embarrassing himself, so he pays extra attention to not do so in conversation. He just assumes people wont really remember him, so he wants anything they do remember to be positive.
Polite:Very similar to the last point, he wants people to LIKE HIM. And he overall is just a polite person, and believes he should be nice, or at least well mannered in every situation.
Good-Tempered:He isn't one with a quick temper. Kiku really just bottles up all of his emotions. He just doesn't really show anything, least of all, anger. And in general, things just don't bug him. Like when people burn their toast, they're all. "AUUUUURG!!" He's all. "Oh, burnt toast. too bad." even unfortunate things just kinda roll off of his shoulders. He does have a slight issue though. When he does burst, It's pretty ferocious. and by "pretty" I mean EXTREMELY. He can get violent, and just terrible when he's set off.
Soft-Hearted:He has a real soft side, that just about rivals the angry grain in him. He's a real sucker for anything cute (especially if it's small and fuzzy). And even when it's not Animals, he's just a real compassionate person to the less fortunate, or to young children (HE LOVES babies, vice versa). He adores children so much, because It's his way of caring for the brother he never had
Introverted:Needless to say, he's very Independent. He just likes being alone, works best by himself and just is cool with quiet.
Jealous: Having to do with his upbringing and current reputation, he's quite a jealous person. Not too much that it shows or that you see it too much, but he will catch you off guard with a spiteful comment. He just doesn't understand why bad people can get good things while he has nothing, and he believes he should have these things too.
Just a quick, "Why he is how he is". Kiku lived a perfectly normal life. He was a little challenged in school due to his Dyslexia, but he did the best he could, and still had some of the best marks in his classes. He played video games like a normal boy. His parents were happily married, he was an only child (although his mother was pregnant). When he was 9, his family was out boating, when large waves capsized the boat. Kiku and his mother were knocked out into the sea, where his mother was quickly swept away, killing her, and her unborn child. Kiku, was swept to the shore, recovered , and after multiple days in critical condition, finally returned home. his father was ok for about a year, his condition slowly deteriorating with increased alcohol consumption. Kiku decided to join a local martial arts program, as it was something he knew his father had done, in an effort to regain his attention and have him care. To his dismay, even though He excelled in it, the efforts were futile. By the time Kiku was 11, his father completely had stopped caring for him, ignoring him completely. He ran away from home, It's not like his father would notice anyways. He was a "stray" for about three years, in the meantime, just stealing food scraps from vendors, and dumpsters. One day, he met another "stray", but this time, a stray Shiba Inu, who he relates to immensely. eventually when he was 14, he was "rescued" by an elderly couple. He didn't dislike them, but he didn't like them either. He pretty much lived in his room they had given them, where he learned his technological skills from scratch on an old computer they had given him. He decided to make it more of a renting agreement vs being their child. He got a part time job at a restaurant, half of his wages paying for his stay, the other half to feed his new video game, anime and manga addiction. He never decided to go to this spy school. He was more so forced by his "Parents" who thought he would be happier there, and thought it would help him socialize with other "gifted" teens.
Kiku woke up and stretched out his arms. A slight breeze drifted and a pleasant scent was wafted through the air. "Okonomiyaki", He whispered, pushing himself out of the pile of cloths he was lying in. He stood up groggy, his stomach grumbling as it throbbed in emptiness. Kiku hadn't really eaten the previous day, just a small portion of rice he had found in a dumpster. He looked around for a mirror shard to fix his hair. he brushed his black bangs out of his eyes and straightened up his uniform. He didn't have school that day, but he didn't have any other clothing at the moment. He poked out of his alley and started to walk down the street, his tiny frame being easily pushed between the hurried people. he ducked off to the side into a small clearing. He stood on his tiptoes with the thought he could at least see a little bit more.
'THERE!' he yelled in his head. he saw a small Yakitori vendor about 50 ft to his right. And the man working it was distracted. "perfect", Kiku muttered to himself. He used his stealth to weave over. he walked slowly over to the cart. The man turned around to throw some trash to a nearby alley. Kiku seized the opportunity, ran behind the small cart, opened the top, grabbed multiple skewers of the meat, then took off back to his own little nest. he saw his box and quickly crawled inside. He looked down at his prizes, his mouth watering, the smell of the negi and honey enticing his senses. He quickly scarfed the chicken down, his stomach filling with a sated warmth.
Suddenly, a man (the owner of a nearby shop) strolled down Kiku's alley. He saw the filthy, thin figure crouched in the cardboard box. "FILTHY CHILD! SHOO!" he yelled, and took the broom he was holding and swatted Kiku. The man was too fast, and he was cornered. The broom hit him hard, straight into his nose, breaking the fragile bones. Blood gushed, and Kiku ran. His eyes half closed, sobbing, he just kept running. Bumping into people until he hit a park. He ran to the large sakura tree, sat down and continued to cry, his tears mixing with the blood. An elderly woman walked up to him. "Otokonoko" and stroked his hair gently. The young boy turned and embraced the woman, scared, dirty, bleeding and crying. She whispered "Daijōbudesu" to Kiku, and pulled him close. And it would be ok.
