Stefan van Gent
FULL NAME HERE Stefan van Gent
NICKNAMES Stef or Steef, though those are a little easier to use if one is actually Dutch or speaks it. He also has various aliases online, the one he uses most often being ‘Vandersteen’.
GENDER Very much male, sir.
AGE Seventeen
GRADE Eleventh
ETHNICITY Belgian. Flemish, to be exact.
SPECIALTY
- Hacking and programming. With a fascination for computers and love for puzzles, no sensitive information located on any hard drive is safe when Stefan is after it;
- Fire weapons. He has spent a lot of time in shooting rinks, perfecting his aim and knows a fair bit about different kind of guns;
Video games. While the school does not accept this as a specialty, Stefan will insist that this is one of his special talents.
YOUR CHARACTER'S LIKES
- Computers. Obviously;
- Guns. He’s pretty good in handling them. It’s a hobby of him to go to the shooting rink. Plus, all those hours of playing shooting games must have left their mark;
- Puzzles and games. This does not just include video games. From the old fashioned jigsaw and rubix cube to the most recent video game, Stefan loves them;
- Comic books of all kinds, though he does have a fondness for the comics of his native lands, like Suske and Wiske, Tintin or the Smurfs;
- Stefan is a lover of good food. He is quite picky about the things he eats. He likes to cook, too;
- Waffles, chocolate and other sweet things. He has an ever demanding sweet tooth;
- Flea markets. There’s always neat stuff to be found at places like that, and for a reasonable prive, too;
- Stefan adores kids. He’s fairly good with the little ones;
- Animals. His favourite are of the cute and fluffy kind. He is partial to cats;
- Cartoons. No matter what people say, you’re never too old for those;
- Family is a very important thing for Stefan, despite certain members of his family sometimes being a gigantic pain in the behind.
YOUR CHARACTER'S DISLIKES
- Disgusting food. This shouldn’t need further explanation. Like I said, he’s picky;
- People who pick on him and boss him around.
- Working hard. Don’t understand this wrong. He is very motivated when it concerns something he is interested in and enjoys doing. When it concerns something he doesn’t like, he’ll do it if it’s absolutely necessary, but often prefers to be lazy.
- Thanks to his sometimes slightly feminine mannerisms and level of personal grooming, people often just assume he swings the other way and thus treat him differently, which annoys him to no end.
- Hand to hand combat. He isn’t the strongest one in the bunch and is better at sneaking around than at kicking someone’s behind personally.
- Rude people. Really, it wouldn’t hurt to conceal your dislike for someone a little bit and be polite.
FEARS
- Bees and wasps. He’s not particularly squeamish when it comes to bugs, though he hates everything that buzzes and has a stinger.
- Sex. This isn’t exactly something that he fears. Just something that he really doesn’t wish to experience personally. Ever;
- He isn’t particularly fond of the dentist either.
QUIRKS/ODDITIES
- He collects rubik’s cubes and similar puzzles. When he sees one that he likes, he just has to have it.
- Stefan is a bit of a hoarder. He has some trouble in letting go of his things, insisting that he can still find a use for them even if they are broken. The reluctance to throw something out is the largest when it concerns something to do with computers, games, or other technology.
- With a specialty like his, you’d expect him to be fairly modern, and he is. He has a love for the old fashioned way of doing things as well though. He loves the looks of old technology, and even owns a typewriter.
- Stefan is asexual. He is perfectly fine with having a relationship that involves kissing and cuddling, but everything that goes further is a definite no for him.
- Thanks to his Belgian heritage, Stefan is bilingual. He’s fluent in Dutch, French and English, and knows a fair bit of German.
OVERALL PERSONALITY
- Stefan is kind and cheerful most of the time, and has a talent to look on the bright side of everything (sometimes so much that it’s plain annoying to anyone with a lesser view of the world). He is that guy who keeps smiling no matter what happens to him;
- He can be quite the little charmer, especially if there is a lady involved. He believes that you should always act like a gentleman around them;
- Stefan is rather devoted the the people close to him. Family is one of the most important things in his life, and he dreams of having one for his own;
- In addition to that last point, he is a little bit of a mamma’s boy;
- While he makes sure to keep his computer and his files on it clean and organised, outside of that organisation is not one of his biggest talents. His living quarters may or may not be a large mess most of the time;
- When he has the chance, Stefan can be quite lazy. He enjoys the simple things in life, like a nice cold beer on a sunny day;
- A great insecurity of Stefan has always been his body. He was a short chubby kid before his latest grow spurt. Now he’s rather thin and lanky and can’t seem to put on any more weight.
- He also likes to think of himself as just a tad more manly than he actually is;
- Stefan is seventeen years old, and thus should be expected to act somewhat like an adult. He has never quite lost touch with his inner child though. In some situations he can be a total child and whine about everything he doesn’t like at that moment. Luckily those moments pass and he’ll go back to being his happy-go-lucky self.
(( Taken from a different RP. ))
The Angel had been warming up to Erik for the slightest bit, though he managed to get him uptight again with a single, seemingly innocent, question. Stefan froze for a moment when he heard Erik ask about his brother. This guy knew Willem? He couldn’t help but wonder how, and what his relationship was with this creature. Though… his brother was a fallen angel. He probably didn’t have a problem in hanging around with other dark creatures.
“I… know him.” He said, not confirming or denying the question. A bit of scorn was audible in his voice, even though he tried to keep his voice neutral. He hadn’t thought about his brother for a while. In the beginning he had thought about it all the time, not knowing how to feel about it. Disappointment, worry, sadness, anger. It all mixed in some strange emotion that he didn’t know. Though slowly he had learned to live with it. He hadn’t seen his brother anymore since. But seeing as this guy apparently knew him, he could be near. Maybe he could… No. Stefan shook the thoughts off. He couldn’t go look for him. It was better if he just never saw him again, no matter how much he wanted to see him again. It would only hurt more.
He nodded absentmindedly as Erik asked if he could teach him something new. He wasn’t so much looking at the pictures on the wall, as he was studying the man’s behaviour. The way he caressed one of those pictures, almost as if he remembered the time it was taken, and longed for that time to come back.
He followed Erik to the kitchen and took a look around. It was strange, but it was almost as if he had been there to decide what the kitchen would look like. The furniture, the way everything stood… well, if this really was their home, that wouldn’t be so strange. And since Stefan loved to cook, he would’ve had a say in how the kitchen was going to be, no matter what. He looked at the cupboards, making a list in his head of where he would put things if this was his kitchen. Where would the coffee be? He opened up a cupboard, and a small, satisfied smile crept onto his face as he spotted the coffee. Yes, he obviously had a hand in this kitchen. “Found it.” He let the other know. “If you make some coffee, I’ll take care of the rest.”
He moved through the kitchen as if he had known the place for years. It wasn’t long before Stefan had found bread, some eggs, and some other things she needed. “Do you like French toast?” He asked while breaking the eggs into a bowl and working at them with a whisk. His wrist made fast, smooth movements while he focussed his attention on her work. His thoughts started to drift back to what Erik had asked before, and he couldn’t help but ask.
“… How is he?” He asked, still facing the eggs in the bowl. “Willem, I mean.” Stefan was probably better off not knowing, but his curiosity got the better of him. He hadn’t heard of his brother for so long, and this might be the only chance he had to find out how he was doing.
